Patzer Prize Winners 2021

November 29, 2021

On November 26, 2021, the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) again awarded the Ernst Patzer Prizes for the promotion of young scientists. This year's winners are Felix Bosco, Maria-Claudia Ramirez-Tannus und Oliver Völkel (all from MPIA).

The Ernst Patzer Prize was donated by the philosopher and art-lover Ernst Patzer and established by his widow. The foundation awards its prizes every year to young researchers at MPIA and other institutes in Heidelberg and wishes to support research particularly in the field of Astronomy. The prizes are honoring the best publications produced in the course of doctoral studies or in the following first postdoc phase. The publications must have been published in a renowned refereed journal.

The selection committee consists of two scientists from MPIA and one additional external scientist from Heidelberg.

This years Patzer prize winners are:

  • Felix Bosco from the Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy for his publication „Spatially Resolving the Kinematics of the <= 100 μas Quasar Broad-line Region Using Spectroastrometry II. The First Tentative Detection in a Luminous Quasar at z = 2.3“, 2021, Astrophysical Journal, 919, 31.
  • Maria-Claudia Ramirez-Tannus from the Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy for her publication „A relation between the radial velocity dispersion of young clusters and their age: Evidence for hardening as the formation scenario of massive close binaries“, 2021,  Astronomy & Astrophysics, 645, L10.
  • Oliver Völkel from the Max-Planck-Institute for Astronomy for his publication „Linking planetary embryo formation to planetesimal formation: II. The effect of pebble accretion in the terrestrial planet zone“, 2021, Astronomy & Astrophysics, 645, 132.
