Press Conference on April 23, 2003
A press conference will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, 10:00-11:00 am, in the conference centre ("Stadthalle"). The following experts will inform on the scientific goals and technical aspects of the DARWIN and TPF missions:
Steven Beckwith
(Baltimore, USA)
is Director of the Space Telescope Science Institute, which operates the Hubble Space Telescope and prepares its successor, the James Webb Space Telescope.
Charles Beichman
(Pasadena, USA)
leads the "Terrestrial Planet Finder" mission at NASA's
Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Malcolm Fridlund
(ESTEC, Noordwijk)
is project scientist for the "DARWIN" mission at ESA.
Thomas Henning
(Heidelberg)
is Director of the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy, where he leads the research on Star and Planet Formation.
Michel G.E. Mayor
(Geneva)
is Director of the Geneva Observatory and a pioneer of the
research on extrasolar planets. In 1995, he discovered the first extrasolar planet, the famous object 51 Peg b.
Jill Tarter
(Mountain View, USA)
is an expert on Exobiology. She holds the Bernard M. Oliver Chair for SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) and heads the
SETI institute.
Questions can be asked in German and will be translated into English.
