These five specific projects are based on the 'science projects' collected for LINC/NIRVANA in February 2006 and represent a broad group of projects with similar instrument requirements.

Science Projects    (restricted access)

Selected specific science projects & team leaders

1/ z ~ 1-2 galaxy P. Ciliegi, E. Schinnerer

faint sources, typical sizes ~ 1-2'', no bright AO stars, not clear if PSF reference in FOV available

2/ proper motions T. Herbst, M. Kürster

absolute & relative astrometry, source size (point-sources & larger), long-term stability

3/ center of nearby galaxies T. Beckert, G. Weigelt

FOV filled by source, no PSF w/i FOV, complex morphology (diffuse plus structures), AO stars available at all?

4/ YSO (environment) D. Lorenzetti, B. Nisini

high dynamic range, diffuse emission plus point-sources, AO stars not perfect, time evolution of structures (e.g. in jets), advantages/disadvantages of on-axis AO vs. multi-conjugate AO (i.e. LINC mode vs. NIRVANA mode)

5/ Galactic Center A. Eckart

high airmass, strong limits on parallactic angle
