Program

Abstract:

The goal of the workshop is to provide an update on the new developments in strong, weak and micro-lensing since the last comprehensive lensing meeting in Boston. The format will be talks (only a few posters) and ample time for discussion.

Planned topics include:

  • Microlensing, Galactic Structure and Planets
  • Probing galaxies through lensing
  • Galaxy clusters as lenses
  • Lensing as a probe of large scale structure
  • Exploring the lensed sources

Workshop format:

After arrival on Sunday afternoon, July 14 and an informal reception, the workshop will begin on Monday, July 15, and end Friday, July 19 afternoon. We plan an outing on Wednesday afternoon.
Roughly we envision the following schedule:

Monday: Microlensing
Tuesday: Galaxy Scale Lenses & Lensed Objects
Wednesday: Lensing and Dark Matter
Thursday: Weak Lensing
Friday: Lensing and Cosmology

How to reach Ringberg Castle

Location and logistics:

The workshop will be held at Ringberg Castle in Bavaria, Germany. Ringberg Castle, the conference site of the Max Planck Society, is about 50 km south of Munich near the small town of Rottach-Egern and Lake Tegernsee. When arriving by plane, the closest airport is Munich airport. Ringberg can be reached by train and cab, or by car. For instructions please see this link. If you plan to travel to Ringberg by train, you can check out the time table of the train connections here (recommended destination: Tegernsee). We recommend to schedule your travel such that you arrive on Sunday, July 14 and depart on Friday afternoon, July 19, after lunch or on Saturday, 20 July, after breakfast.

Due to space limitations at Ringberg Castle, the number of attendees is limited. We will try to accommodate all workshop participants in the castle. Accommodations at the conference site will preferentially be given to invited participants on a first come, first served basis. For additional participants we have pre-reserved a small number of rooms in the nearby Hotel zur Post in Kreuth. Transportation to Ringberg Castle will be arranged.

The full board rate at Ringberg Castle of 90 Euro per day includes one drink at the meals and refreshments during the breaks. The following credit cards are accepted both at Ringberg Castle and at the hotel: American Express, Visa and Mastercard. For more information about the castle please refer to this URL.

Optional tours:

We will have a free afternoon on Wednesday for optional hikes and tours. We will organize a trip to the ``Wallberg'', a mountain in the vicinity that can be reached by cable car (or by hiking up), and a subsequent evening in a traditional Bavarian restaurant/beer garden with regional food. (Note: They only accept cash or cheque!)
In case of bad weather we will visit the Linderhof
Castle and its beautiful gardens.

Registration:

Registration and talk title deadline: April 30, 2002.

Please note that due to the very limited space at the conference site, participation in Ringberg workshops is necessarily by invitation. A small number of additional participants can be accomodated and we welcome such registrations. If you were not invited but decide to register now, please do not make travel arrangements until you have received a confirmation that you can attend. The registration fee will probably be Euro 80 (payable on site after arrival- please pay cash!).
