Stellar populations of (nuclear) star clusters in late-type dwarf galaxies

Stellar populations of (nuclear) star clusters in late-type dwarf galaxies

Star cluster populations in Fornax and Eridanus late-type dwarf galaxies

- Aims: To set observational constrains to massive galaxy assembly from the properties of their building blocks' star clusters. Star clusters capture major star formation epochs in galaxy star formation history. We will deduce that from the photometric properties of star clusters (young, old globular, nuclear, UCDs) in and around the Fornax and Eridanus cluster late-type dwarf galaxies.

- Data: ESO VLT/VIMOS B,V,I imaging of 10 dIrrs.

Stellar populations of nuclear star clusters in late-type dwarfs

-Aims: Massive galaxy buildup is accompained by the accretion and dissolution of dwarf galaxies. This leaves a "naked nucleus", i.e. the former nuclear star cluster (NSC) of the lower mass galaxy, to orbit as a lone massive globular cluster. Can the NSCs be the progenitors of massive globular clusters (such as wCen and M54 in the core of the dissolving Sagittarius dwarf galaxy) as well as ultra compact dwarfs? We will address this from their stellar population analysis (dynamical and photometric mass, abundances).

-Data: VLT/UVES and FORS high- and medium resolution spectra.
