The most massive gas clumps in the Milky Way

Abstract:
In the recent years significant progress has been made in the understanding of high-mass star formation, although there are still open questions. Only a systematic survey can provide statistical data for unbiased studies. The APEX Telescope Large Area Survey of the Galaxy (ATLASGAL, Schuller et al. 2009, A&A, 605, 415) surveyed the southern sky at submillimeter wavelengths in dust continuum emission. We searched for the most massive dense gas condensations in the ATLASGAL survey within −60 < l < 60 degree and |b| < 1.5 degrees. We investigated the most luminous clumps and with the use of the Herschel Hi-GAL (Molinari et. al 2010, PASP, 122, 314) data we studied their basic physical parameters: distances, galactic distributions, temperatures, luminosites, masses.
