Local-density-driven clustered star formation

Parmentier, Genevieve (Astronomisches Rechen-Institut (Heidelberg))
Pfalzner, Susanne (Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie (Bonn))

Abstract:
We present a new semi-analytical model for the early evolution of star clusters. This model builds on a given star formation efficiency per free-fall time inside cluster progenitor clumps. Its predictions agree nicely with (1) the radius-density relation of gas-embedded clusters, and (2) the relation between the local surface densities of gas and young stellar objects observed in molecular clouds of the solar neighbourhood. Because it predicts stellar densities as a function of cluster progenitor-clump properties, this model will help quantify the influence of young clusters onto the planets they form.
