Abstract:
Discovered in 2003 as an eruptive variable (Tapia et al. MNRAS 367, 513, 2006), V723 Carinae (previously named CarI-136) is embedded in the northern part of the dark cloud associated with the Trumpler14/CarI photodissociation region. In this contribution, we present lightcurves in the $H$ and $K$ bands from 1993 to 2012 showing large erratic variations in timescales of years after its first detected outburst of more than three magnitudes in the K-band that occurred prior to 2003. Two-epoch Spitzer/IRAC photometry suggests that this variability is also present at longer wavelengths. Near-IR spectroscopy obtained in 2012 and 3103 with the Magellan Telescope at Las Campanas Observatory the 2.12 micron molecular hydrogen line and in the CO bandheads in emission. This consistent with a post FU Ori stage for this object with a jet.
