Initiated by Nikolay Nikolov and co-organised by IMPRS, the IDL tutorial, an introduction series to IDL, started with the great help of our local IDL gurus Domenico Tamburro, Nicola de Rio, Joe Carson and Kees Dullemond.
Machine learning and pattern recognition special lecture series by Coryn Bailer-Jones started.
IMPRS softskills days Jan 17-19 on presentation skills and job application skills. Our course teachers were Kerstin Meyer-Ross (presentation & interviewing skills) and Eva Grebel (astronomy survivals skills).
IMPRS "Christmas party" 2007 at the Max-Planck-Haus. Besides the usual Gluehwein and other beverages, a huge variety of international food was served, having been prepared by our students.
IMPRS deadline 2007 for the academic year 2008/2009. Of 104 application registrations at the IMPRS application webpage, IMPRS has received 98 signed application forms including application material.
We were happy to have had Prof. Jay Gallagher (Wisconsin) here for an invited lecture series on the Structure & evolution of low mass galaxies for November 28-29, 2007. This visit was coordinated in collaboration with the HGSFP.

IMPRS is happy to announce that three of its PhD students (among other artists), Marcello Cacciato, Claudia Mignone, Emanuel Ziegler, will present examples of their photographic art within the exhibition Licht und Schatten at the "Altes Hallenbad" in Heidelberg, Oktober 6-27, 2007.

Second IMPRS Summer School in Heidelberg Aug.29 - Sept.5. This year's topic is the Milky Way Galaxy. 84 participants from 24 countries attended the lectures by James Binney, Bruce Elmegreen, Eva Grebel, Ben Moore and specific science talks by colleagues from Heidelberg. The IMPRS for Astronomy and Cosmic Physics becomes an independent part of the Heidelberg Graduate School of Fundamental Physics representing its astronomy and astrophysics part.

("BW" stands for the German state of "Baden-Württemberg").
