Astronomical Open Day draws 3700 visitors

22. Juni 2015

On the Astronomical Open Day on June 21, 2015, more than 3700 visitors took the opportunity to visit the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy and the Haus der Astronomie on the Königstuhl mountain in Heidelberg - undaunted by the less than clement weather. A special program with 29 workshops for children attracted more than 400 budding scientists.

Public talks and a total of 44 different stations were dedicated to astronomy and to the construction of high-tech instruments for telescopes on Earth and in space. There was a high level of interest among the visitors, who peppered the scientists, technicians and engineers with questions about their work and, more generally, about galaxies, black holes, stars, planets (in our Solar System and beyond) or the big bang. Planetarium presentations in Haus der Astronomie were packed throughout.

The next Astronomical Open Day on Königstuhl is set for 2018.
