Science Objectives
Gaia is obtaining astrometric, photometric, and spectroscopic information on over one billion stars in our Galaxy, as well as galaxies, quasars, and solar system objects.
Instruments
- the astrometric intrument measures positions, parallaxes, and proper motions. [more]
- the two spectrophotometric instruments obtain low-resolution spectra in optical band. [more]
- the radial velocity spectrometer measures the Doppler shift from high-resolution spectra. [more]
