The METIS Imager is the imaging camera of the METIS instrument for the Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) in Chile, used for observing in the infrared wavelength range between 3 and 13 μm.
CAD model of the METIS Imager inner structure, which will be cooled town to a temperature of 40 K (-233 °C), shown without its radiation shields.
The Imager left side allows imaging in the wavelength range of 3-5 μm (L and M band channel), the right part is the N band channel (7,5–13,5 μm). Each of both channels consist i.a. of a pupil wheel, two filter wheels, a camera mirror optics and a detector unit.
Total view of the Imager including radiation shields and colling connections.
