EPoS 2024 - Answering the Big Questions: Are we making progress?

  • Start: May 12, 2024
  • End: May 17, 2024
  • Location: Schloss Ringberg
  • Host: Jürgen Steinacker
  • Contact: stein@mpia.de
EPoS The Early Phase of Star Formation is a series of conferences for a field where still no paradigm has been established and consequently opposing views require intense debates. EPoS meetings have an unusual form: they devote substantial time to discussions after the presentations, after each session, in the poster sessions, and in focus groups. [more]

ML4ASTRO - Machine Learning in Astrophysical studies

ML4ASTRO
  • Date: Jun 25, 2024
  • Location: Studio Villa Bosch, Heidelberg
  • Host: Tobias Buck (IWR), Morgan Fouesneau (MPIA), Guillaume Guiglion (ZAH/LSW, MPIA), Ralf Klessen (ZAH/ITA), Annalisa Pillepich (MPIA), Kai Polsterer (HITS)
  • Contact: fouesneau@mpia.de
The workshop's theme is the application of machine learning to solve astrophysical problems. This event will be a one-day workshop and unconference, where we will discuss and learn from each other about applying techniques to solve very similar problems in various contexts. We hope this workshop could lead to some new collaborations or initial joint studies. We will dedicate a significant amount of time to unconference sessions and informal discussions. [more]

  • Contact: kreidberg@mpia.de
A major goal for exoplanet atmosphere characterization is to infer the formation history of gas giant exoplanets from their present-day atmospheric composition. [more]

New Computational Methods in Milky Way Dynamics and Structure

A three-day workshop on machine-learning-inspired tools and methods for revealing the dynamics and structure of our Galaxy in the era of large photometric, astrometric, and spectroscopic surveys. [more]

Two HoRSEs: High-Resolution Exoplanet and Stellar Characterization Today and in the ELT Era

  • Start: Jul 15, 2024
  • End: Jul 19, 2024
  • Location: Harnack-Haus, Berlin
  • Host: Paul Mollière, Laura Kreidberg
  • Contact: molliere@mpia.de
It is time to strategically reassess the role of HRS in the next 5-10 years. What can we learn from combining HRS with JWST observations, and how can the two techniques best complement each other? How should we prepare for the ELT, such that we are ready to fully exploit its power from first light onward? [more]
