Reimar-Lüst-Fellowship for Adriana Pohl

September 27, 2016
Adriana Pohl has been awarded with the Reimar-Lüst-Fellowship by the Max-Planck-Society (MPG). She receives a two year funding for her research project.

Adriana Pohl is currently PhD student in the Planet and Star Formation Department at the Max Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA) and in the Planet Formation Group of the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (ITA) of the Center for Astronomy of Heidelberg University (ZAH).Her PhD thesis deals with detailed modeling of protoplanetary disks, focusing on radiative transfer calculations of scattered light from near-infrared to millimeter wavelengths in order to explain recent observed images of disks. Due to new observation techniques - for example with the SPHERE instrument at VLT – spectacular new images revealing details like, e.g., spiral structures. Adriana Pohl computes synthetic images based on numerical simulations of disk structures combined with parameters describing the image quality of the used instrumentation. Finally, she compares such images with the real data.

The Reimar Lüst Fellowship supports excellent junior scientists since 1983. It is financed by a foundation based on donations from German companies, which was established on the occasion of the 60th birthday of Reimar Lüst, a former MPG president
